Our dedicated staff is the heart of Westwind Sailing. Many of our ‘family’ members had grown up with Westwind as students themselves who now have returned to become part of our team. Our staff expresses a true passion for sailing and a desire to share knowledge and experiences with others. We train our instructors in-house to earn US Sailing level 1 certification - the nation’s standard for small boat instructor training. Our instructors are supported by a solid group of assistant instructors and volunteers who help round out the Westwind Sailing programs. In addition, all our instructors and assistants carry current CPR and First Aid certification. We hope you will enjoy the education you receive from Westwind Sailing and will recall great memories for years to come.

Executive Director - Diane J Wenzel

Diane established Westwind Sailing in 1987 with the goal of creating a community sailing environment that was safe, fun and encouraging. This attitude, which sets the standard for Westwind, was inspired by her own fond memories of learning to sail in summer camp and sailing recreationally while growing up. Diane earned her BS in Recreation/Leisure studies and minor in Business Economics from CSU Long Beach in 1988. She grew up loving the beaches and oceans of Southern California and continues to kiteboard, surf and sail.
